...Well, not any more, I just had my first flight in a helicopter 8-).

For my 37th birthday my family chipped in and bought me a helicopter flight around Chichester (UK). I have to admit that it's something I've always wanted to try, but not something I would have booked myself, because I suppose I am a rather materialistic kind of person, if I pay for something I like to be able to pick it up and say "See, that's what I bought". But this trip was fantastic, and something I will remember for a long time to come.

The helicopter was a Bell 206L1 Long Ranger, and was remarkably comfortable! I was lucky in that it has seating for 5 passengers, and as I was the only single in the group (the other 4 passengers were two couples), so I got the co-pilot's position :D. This was very fortunate as I had also recently bought a 3D video camera and what better way to test it out than to take it on a flight over the English countryside. The footage itself isn't brilliant to be honest, but I think that's just because I'm not familiar with my new camera just yet, but the depth effect is there, and I even managed to get the rotor blades to synchronise with the backing music .

The video can be found by clicking on this [link] and remember, if you have a 3D TV or monitor, or can cross your eyes for 10 minutes, you can see it in (sort of) glorious 3D!

I'm really glad that you had a good time!! I'm sure it was awesome having a bird's eye view!! There is a place in the mountains here that does a 45 minute flight around the Smokey Mountains that I've always wanted to do. I shall go check out your video!!

Well should funds permit, I would highly recommend taking that trip. Quick tip though, skip breakfast if you do, the G-forces that a chopper creates can cause some very odd sensations is one's stomach!

Holy crap, I didn't get my nickname until I was in my mid-20s, and it's the only one I have! Although I used to go by "Warlock" and "Necromantica" on the net in the past, pretentious huh :D.

My first & last chopper rides were in Army Pumas over 20yrs ago...Facing out the side with the side doors rolled back, & held in by an inch wide webbing strap as the bloody pilots bank right over almost cutting the ground with the rotors.

...Invigorating.

I was kind of hoping that it would be possible to fly with the doors open, but obviously it wasn't in this case. Next time I'm booking a Bell Huey :D.
